Skibidi Sigma Ohio
This week was a blur, and sometimes it do be like that.
We had lots of success working with members because that's been a struggle in this ward a little bit. It's kind of the saying when 20% of the people do 80% of the work and vice versa. We're trying to get more members involved, and boy, it's hard to invigorate them with some drive for missionary work! But we've really been pushing it, and the stake presidency has been backing us in our efforts, and it's slowly but surely getting better.
Nevertheless, waffles. I love waffles and pancakes. I think waffles are better because the texture is way better, and when I put the peanut butter, it fits in the little squares. We had a waffle social activity on Fast Sunday, and boy, the waffles were good. I accidentally got some Tajín on my waffles. It was good to see some members there that don't always come to the social activities.
We were on our way to dinner when this Dodge Dakota pulled up speedily next to us and asked us, "Are ya Mormons?" I tend to just own it because that's what people call us, and I tell them it's a nickname but not our actual name. He's like, "Boy, I LOVE Mormons!" I was like, "Okay... where's this going?" Anyways, the man then begins to tell us to take all the citrus we want, and we did because the citrus this time of year is buss. We stood by the truck and talked—well, mostly him. He didn't really let us talk but was chill to us. He stared at me and said, "Joseph Smith." I'm like, "Okay, what about him?" He's like, "How do you believe?" I told him that the Book of Mormon is evidence of Joseph Smith's prophetic calling and that I read and prayed to know if it was true. He then tells me I wouldn't be a good salesman, and I told him I don't sell the gospel. He didn't seem satisfied with my answer, so I asked him what answer he was looking for. He's like, "Prove it to me." So I offered a Book of Mormon, and he said he wouldn't read it and then left.
I would say I love missionary work because you never know what you're going to get. I really can't think of very many more people who get more involved with a community than missionaries. We're walking around talking to everyone, eating everyone's food, going to fun events, and spreading the gospel. Sometimes it's hard, and you feel like an outcast, but it really helps you appreciate the good things every day and also helps you learn how to rely on Christ. I'm still figuring out how to rely on Christ, and it's a worthwhile process. I do think out of all my areas, this is probably my hardest area. It's not like missionary work is one-size-fits-all. I've had to get a whole new plethora and wardrobe of new ideas. I guess it's similar to Christ, in that He ministers to the one. He always goes and teaches the one and helps the one. I've had some wonderful friends and family that have had this Christlike example towards me. Be kind and minister to the one. When you get a random thought to call or visit someone or do something nice, just do it. It's a prompting from the Spirit. This week, try reaching out to someone you haven't talked to in a while, and I promise that you both will be blessed from it. Have faith that as you follow Christ, He'll be there with you.
Also, we have some sweet elderly ladies in our ward taking us to eat on Valentine's Day. What's something good we can get them?
