How To Start A Truck
So this week has been quick. We had a good week with TONS of success. I'm starting to really like this Elder Stone. He's a bit intense and likes to ram things with his head, but other than that, he's a pretty normal missionary. We had tons of friends at church, and it's so fun to talk to people there! Church as a missionary can be stressful, but I've learned to soak up that short 7 minutes of the sacrament. Most peaceful time of the week for me. Even when I sleep at night, I'm teaching people in my dreams.
Sunday, we have this "new and returning member class," and it's taught by the older people in the ward. And boy, they just go way out into left field on simple gospel doctrine. Next thing we know, our Ward Mission Leader is telling how he put consecrated oil on his truck and blessed it, and his truck started. Or another dude would chime in that he had something similar happen. The class is supposed to be on "simple" gospel doctrine, but oh well. The class is getting disbanded soon.
We had this YSA missionary barbecue at Bishop’s house with tons of tri-tip and chicken, and it was really yummy. Then after was a small fireside, and the bishop said something about a rule in the YSA, where "no one sits alone" on Sundays. So this Sunday I pre-committed to sit next to someone alone at sacrament. So Sunday rolls around, and I feel the prompting to go do it, and boy, I started wrestling with it, but I decided to act. So I got up and sat next to a really active member who was doing just fine, and his brother was just blessing the sacrament. I was a bit confused why I needed to sit next to him, BUT because I moved seats, I saw this other girl who I'd never seen before at the YSA, but I faintly recognized her. So I got up again a few minutes later and sat next to her. Turns out she's from Madera, and it was her first time at the YSA. Pretty cool how God works.
Here's something I like that goes well with what I'm talking about:
Matthew 19:16–22
¶ And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
"The young man was stunned; he had never considered such a sacrifice. He was humble enough to ask the Lord but not faithful enough to follow the divine counsel he was given. We must be willing to act when we receive an answer."
Being humble doesn't always = being faithful.
How many of us are willing to ask and not receive? How many of us are seeking our Savior but not willing to follow? Faith is hope + action.
Anyways, The End. Sermon over.
Love y'all, bye.
